PROJECT PROPOSAL

MY SOLUTION

I am going to design a website that will go into a kiosk device that will tell someone what over-the-counter medicine to take after filling out a survey of their symptoms. The kiosk would be located right outside a CVS or Walgreens pharmacy. Before a person fills out the survey, a disclaimer will pop up saying they are at least 18 and to check in with a pharmacist if they are on prescribed medicines at the moment.  This survey would have the person fill out their age, gender, health conditions, and symptoms. The more specific symptoms a person fills out, the more accurate the results will be. The website will also ask a variety of questions based on the symptoms the person types in. At the end of the survey, the kiosk would generate what over-the-counter medicine to take and give to their child. It will also show what these drugs contain, how much to take, and any risks.

COMPONENTS PLAN

1. Research the layout of pharmacies

The purpose of this component was to help me figure out the best layout for my kiosk. It will also help me figure out what customers are looking for in an OTC medicine. I looked online (websites of CVS,Walgreens, and Target) and sketched out what their layout looked like and how many medicine categories they have. In the end, I had a really good sense of the feel of a pharmacy and how to accommodate customers.

2.  Research common conditions

The purpose of this component was to know what conditions I needed to include on my symptom checker or website. I used Google to generate medical websites. I also used WebMD and played around with their symptom checker. This helped me see the connection between systems and possible conditions. After this component, I had a good sense of what conditions I wanted to cover (cold, allergies, stomach flu, etc.).

3. Research common OTC medicines

The purpose of this component was to have accurate OTC medicines as results/solutions for the user's symptoms. I used the Coon Rapids Targt website to research what common OTC medications were included in the inventory. This component helped me narrow down what specific brands and types of OTC medications to include on my own website.

4. Use Adobe XD to create layout of website

The purpose of this component was to create the website. Specifically, Adobe XD was used to create the website/symptom checker that people will use in the kiosk. In the end, a clear layout of the website with all of the pages will be included. It will have all of the appropriate buttons to move from page to page.

7.  Create a logistic rhythm where if you have “these symptoms”  it will display an accurate condition.

The purpose of this component was to create a connecting process to get accurate results (conditions). I will be using Adobe XD to complete this component. At the end of this component, I hope to have a working system where the user will be shown their possible conditions after answering symptom questions.

Medical Information
5.  List out typical symptoms based on conditions researched

The purpose of this component was to create an interactive symptom list.  First, I would create the list on a Google Doc, then transfer it over onto a page in Adobe XD. The goal was to have the user type in their symptoms, which would display on the screen as a numbered list.

Doctor's Appointment
6.  Create a system where when you type in a certain symptom it gets added to a list (displayed on screen).

The purpose of this component is to accurately display OTC medicine results to the user. This component will be created on Adobe XD. The final, completed state will hopefully be a working symptom list checker.

8.  Test out symptom checker

The purpose of this component is to make sure that my website works. I will be testing it out using the Adobe XD preview. By the end of this component, I hope to have a working website that accurately displays symptoms, possible conditions, and treatment options.

9.  Design kiosk on solidworks

The purpose of this component is to display the full design and to help the audience get a better understanding of my design or idea. I will be creating the 3D model in Solidworks. By the end of this component, my 3D model will be included with measurements and ready to print.

10. Build physical model of Solidworks (if time)

The purpose of this component is to have a physical display of the kiosk that will be located in a pharmacy. I will use one of the 3D printers in the Makerspace to print off the design. By the end of this component, I will have a completed physical design for people to pick up during the Expo.
